We can visit one of the most unique museums in Greenland - the Open Air Museum showing the old Inuit culture, including the Norsemen in Greenland from 982 and the Old Danish colonial power from 1797 - 1953. In the summer settlement a local Inuit dressed in fur cloth will show how they lived in the old days.
In front of the culture house we will be served Kaffe-Mik, which is an old Greenlandic tradition of inviting guests to your home for celebrations such as weddings and birthdays. Refreshments include coffee, tea and Greenlandic cake.
We can enjoy a folk dance performance, which will take place at the culture house. We will have a unique opportunity to experience the lively and quick moving Greenlandic folk dance, with the dancers dressed in national costume. Dutch and Scottish whale hunters originally inspired the dances. Through the centuries, this has developed into the unique folk dance tradition we know today.
In the church a Greenlandic Choir will be performing. The Greenlanders are well known for their
multi-vocal singing. The slow moving psalms and the merry songs allow us to lean back and let our impressions of Greenland mix with the enchanting singing. Again the singers will be dressed in national costume.
The Inuit invented the kayak. Actually kayak is an old Inuit name, only it is spelt qajaq in Greenlandic and therefore pronounced in a slightly different way. This is a very special opportunity to experience how the hunters of Greenland, by centuries of passing on knowledge, have mastered the various techniques such as the Eskimo roll. The Eskimo roll was developed to assure they would survive capsize during a storm. A kayak show will be held for us.
